Lake Eyasi Girls' Vocational Training Center Project

Project Summary

We offer vocational education in tailoring whereby vulnerable girls are trained and couched until they start their own tailoring marts. It also offers secondary education for two years whereby vulnerable girls are trained for two years and seat for qualifying tests and thereafter they are sponsored to join various colleges in Tanzania. Up to now, Lake Eyasi Vocational Training Centre has helped 600 girls, some are teachers, nurses, doctors, administrators, hoteliers, tailors and several other professionals.

Achievement

  1. O.P.E Lake Eyasi managed to provide vocational education to more than 600 women and girls who are now employed in different cadres in various industries including medical industry, hospitality industry, fashion industry, education and several other industries.
  2.  O.P.E has managed to start children care center since 2022
  3.  Lake Eyasi Vocational Training Centre has been able to operate for 15 years sustainably from 2009 to 2024.
  4.  We won the Government Project titled “Secondary Education Quality Improvement Programme” (SEQUIP). In this project the government supplied us with teachers who are paid by the government and books.

Challenges

  1. O.P.E Lake Eyasi Vocation Education centre don’t have computers and other learning materials
  2.  Lack of sustainable sources of funds
  3.  Limited resources unproportionate to the growing number of beneficiaries (e.g. limited water
  4.  resource, unsustainable source of energy)

Way Forward

  1. The Centre plans to acquire at least 20 computers for start up and other learning materials
  2.  The Centre plans to install solar system to ensure sustainable source of energy
  3.  The center plans to increase 3 wells
